Handcrafted Sterling Silver and Turquoise "Evil Eye" Khamsa Necklace (Small)

$89.00

Delicate sterling silver necklace features the "Hamsa" or "Khamsa" symbol to ward off the evil eye. This symbol has been used as a protective amulet by many faith traditions throughout history, including followers of Judaism, Christianity and Islam.

Depicting the open palm of the right hand, the name Hamsa (or Khamsa in Arabic) is derived from the root meaning "five". For some Muslims it signifies the five verses of Surah Falaq , seeking Allah's refuge from evil. For others in Islamic tradition the five fingers represent the Five Pillars of Islam. Yet other Muslims call it the "Hand of Fatima", referencing the members of the Prophet Muhammed's daughter Fatimah Zahra's family; those five people over whom the Prophet held a cloth.

Levantine Christians call it the hand of Mary, while Jews refer to it as the hand of Miriam in remembrance of the sister of Prophets Moses and Aaron.

The pendant has silver filigree accented by a natural turquoise stone, and sparkling cubic zirconia accents . Hand made by Turkish artisans following centuries old jewelry making traditions. Each piece is individually hand made following centuries old jewelry making traditions.
